KIN: Asian-inspired food to kneel down to
Restaurant KIN concept
This rather small restaurant near Lochergut conjures up simple but very flavourful dishes. What makes it special: A completely open kitchen, hip hop beats, easy vibes and a young, dynamic team. Unique in Zurich and always worth a visit. You can either choose à la carte dishes from a small menu or order the Chef's Choice (6 dishes) or Tasting Menu (8 dishes - vegan also possible). Both menus are also served with small snacks. One dish changes every week or so, so the menu is completely new approximately every two months. In summer, there are tables to sit outside in the cosy garden.
Cuisine in the KIN restaurant
KIN serves Asian fusion cuisine. Mainly with Japanese influences, but also Chinese and Vietnamese. The main ingredient of a dish always comes from Switzerland. The team is keen to experiment and serves a daikon (radish) steak instead of a scallop, for example, which is amazingly similar in texture and flavour to the scallop. Two dishes have been on the menu since the opening: pickled cucumber and miso salmon.
Head chef Beni Landolt has travelled all over the world: Sao Paulo (second highest density of Japanese in the world), New Zealand, Singapore, France and Zurich and the surrounding area.
My recommendation at KIN in Zurich
Chef's Choice or Tasting Menu. Top value for money.
