Cartell

As of this year (2021), Zurich has grown in the number of mexican restaurants. Basel friends may already know the Cartell, because this is where the restaurant originated. Two brothers, born in Mexico run the two restaurants. Rodolfo Estrada in Basel and Federico Estrada in Zurich. The combination of authentic, Mexican cuisine combined with a relaxed, modern atmosphere is important to them. The dishes combine traditional, Mexican preparation methods with international influences. Especially the taco with chicken breast and crispy fried pumpkin seeds surprised me positively and was a new pleasure experience for me. Here, the restaurant deliberately goes different ways and wants to stand out from the competition. In addition to special appetizers like barbecue corn ribs or Baja Balls, there is also a fine guacamole with crispy fried "chicharrones" (pork skin). The main course menu includes quesadillas, tacos, burritos, tortas and various salads. Mexican products are used for most part, combined with regional vegetables and meat whenever possible with a seasonal focus. The sauces and tortilla chips are homemade. Federico told me, we can be curious about some ideas that he still wants to implement in Zurich.
An important focal point in the restaurant is the beautiful bar with over 60 bottles of selected tequilas and mezcal.
