Brunch bars in Zurich - tested by Züriplausch

Brunching out or having breakfast at the weekend is becoming more and more popular. In Zurich, the supply is large, but the demand in many places is often much greater, so that a reservation is definitely worthwhile.

The brunch-restaurants on my ranking list partly offer brunch or breakfast à discretion, but often also à la carte. A large selection of egg dishes, fresh pancakes, salty dishes, bagels, salmon rolls, muesli, plait, cheese and much more are on the menu. Freshly squeezed juices and fine coffee specialities are also offered. What more could you want for a perfect start to the weekend? My favourite brunch restaurants have all been personally tested by me and I can absolutely recommend them to you.

I particularly like the warm atmosphere in the Bebek and the impressive interior design in the former tram depot. Even when the restaurant is full (almost always the case), one is warmly welcomed with the proposal to wait at the bar for a free table. In Bebek you can discover delicious oriental dishes, fine teas and other specialities all day long.

My tip: Big oriental breakfast and mezze plate.

Gül Restoran

Concept Gül

Elif Oskan, also known as Miss Marshall and from various pop-ups, has opened her own Turkish restaurant, Restaurant Gül. It's all about oriental hospitality, which is best celebrated with dishes from the ocakbasi (charcoal grill) and shared in keeping with the Turkish way of life. In summer, there are tables outside in the charming courtyard.

Kitchen and brunch at restaurant Gül

The ingredients are carefully selected from producers that the restaurant knows and are organic wherever possible.
Elif and her team create dishes that are both contemporary and authentic. 🫶

🫒🫑🫓🍳🧅🥣 The brunch at Gül, which has already become somewhat famous (the restaurant was full when we visited 😉), is always served on Sundays, but also on Saturdays - and includes everything we like: grilled pointed peppers, delicious egg dishes, freshly baked ekmeks, simits and pides from our wood-fired oven, as well as kaymak (Turkish cream cheese), olives and homemade confi. And of course, depending on the season, fresh fruit.

ORDER LIKE BABA OSKAN - FROM 4 PERSONS - CHF 32.50 p.p.
THE TURKISH BREAKFAST IS ONE OF BABA'S FAVORITE DISHES - OF COURSE
À DISCRÉTION!
Bürter, Kaymak, Honey, Reçel, Olives, Biber, Firin Sogani, Beyaz Peynir, Ekmek, Simit &
Youssef's breakfast bowl

CHEF'S CHOICE - CHF 62 (selection is the same as for 4 people)
For two to three people we offer Chef's Choice, the Turkish breakfast classic

Saturday 11 to 13:00
Sunday 11 to 14:00

My tip at Gül Restoran

Iskender chicken with tomatoes, yogurt & butter sauce. Served with Ekmek - homemade bread from the charcoal oven.
And of course the BRUNCH :)

Roschen and his team spoil their guests at Kafi Freud with homemade granola, fine cakes, quiche and of course fresh coffee and chai. Cosy atmosphere with plenty of greenery, coffee house music and a selection of good books invite you to linger. The Kafischnaps is a café and pub and is run with a lot of heart. The chef smokes fish himself, the meat comes exclusively from Swiss production from the butcher's shop and breakfast tastes so delicious until 4 pm. During the week there is a changing lunch menu. Wonderful in the evening for aperitifs with plättli.

My Tip: UUFKLAPPTI BREAD with marinated salad either with Chèvre Chaud or homemade salmon

The grain silo is a café and bakery in the beautiful mill Tiefenbrunnen in Seefeld. Breakfast is served every day, lunch from Monday to Friday and hearty and sweet crepes on weekends. From 3 p.m. the aperitif starts with cheese and sausage plates, various pots served with a bread basket and much more. In addition, the operators regularly invite to culinary events.

My tip: Have a coffee with friends at the weekend.

Good to know: The grain silo is relatively popular with families. Last time we visited, it was almost a bit too loud.

Salon: classic French bistro cuisine

French flair with typical French bistro dishes can be found in the Salut SALON. In the traffic-calmed area of Weststrasse, it is a wonderful place to linger in fine weather.

The food is fresh and seasonal, with regional organic products as often as possible. For lunch during the week, there is a choice of a daily fish or meat dish and a vegetarian dish. At the weekend there is an à la carte menu. This is divided into dishes for small and large appetites with classics such as tartar, moules et frites, tarte flambée and entrecote "Cafe de Paris".

The wine cellar is well stocked with fine wines from France, Switzerland and other renowned wine regions.
